Our Review

This education-based app introduces children to the world of math through word problems. Each word problem has a photograph and scenario that includes a different animal found in the wild in Africa. iLiveMath has three levels of difficulty that are geared toward kids in kindergarten through 6th grade; the math problems focus on addition, subtraction, multiplication, and percentages. The app has a distinct approach to instruction that applies concepts to real life situations rather simply performing numerical drills. As a result, learners are exposed to the language of math and are able to build confidence and understanding in a less conventional way. Another unique feature allows kids to get help with problems or share with others via blog, email educator, or tweet to followers and friends. iLiveMath is a fun, educational app that offers something different to those learning basic math. My only gripe is the cumbersome interface to log each answer (you must scroll to find the right number, tap to select, and then advance to the next problem). Maybe I’m getting lazy in my old age, but I think fewer steps would enhance the app experience.

In this app you will find over 50 photos and videos of Animals from Africa, educational links, and educational videos with over 1 million randomly generated math word problem questions. There are three levels of difficulty which will test young readers from K to 6th grade.

Settings:
Username and Password, Email, Sound, First Name, blogging options are configurable.

General Instructions:

(1) Review word problems which are dynamically and randomly generated.
(2) Share your question and answer summaries on our community blogsite www.ilivemath.blogspot.com
(3) Email the questions and answers to your educator for review
(4) Explore related wiki links in a kid safe browser.
(5) Watch fun educational videos after you've correctly answered a certain number of questions correctly in a kid safe view.

Level 1: Addition and Subtraction with numbers 1 to 10
Level 2: Includes Multiplication with numbers 1 to 50
Level 3: Percentages, mean, median, mode, and range with numbers 1 to 10

    We just updated the iLiveMath Animals of Africa, Winter Sports, and Animals of Asia apps yesterday after several enhancements were made over the last few weeks.

    The apps were amazingly approved by the iTunes team in record time – 2 day turnaround for all three apps!!! Wow!

    Overall we strived to provide a greater ease of use and bug fix:

    * Level 1, 2, 3, difficulty settings are now available from the home page
    * Email Address is configurable from the Mail View directly.
    * First Name for the Subject of the Email configurable directly.
    * Tweet UserID and Password are configurable directly.
    * Mail2Blogger config status is displayed.
    * Answer is displayed as a label versus within the text field.
    * Picker is launched through a button – versus a text field – which fixed a bug
    * Modified instructions
    * Sound ON/OFF still requires configuration through iPhone / iPod Touch settings
    * Mail2Blogger ON/OFF still requires configuration through iPhone / iPod Touch settings

    We hear your concern regarding the launch of the picker, the done click and then the next page click. We'll need to noodle that some more to see how we can make it easier. One thing we liked about using the picker versus a choice of say 4 answer buttons was it really challenged our kids more with a wider selection of possible answers. For example they couldn't just guess… I remember people use to say if you don't know the answer guess answer “C”… but I do hear you regarding the 3 clicks for each answer. Hopefully we can think of a resolution.
